Does the whitening setting on your toothbrush really do anything?

Using the whitening mode on an electric toothbrush changes the speed the bristles are moving so it provides more of a polishing action. It causes an alternating-speed mode, the action of which moves between high and low oscillations to help buff away stains on the tooth surface. It’s meant to be used as an extra clean on top of your regular toothbrushing, which is done with the everyday cleaning mode. However, using this mode won’t necessarily whiten teeth, only professional tooth bleaching can do that. Its aim is to help in the removal of stains alongside other adjuncts.

Do you have to brush your teeth after eating/drinking coffee/tea to keep them white after bleaching?

After drinking tea and coffee, ensure you rinse really well with water straight after. You don’t have to brush each and every time you do, we don’t want you to over brush especially if you drink alot of tea and coffee. Instead, use Oral B Pro Expert toothpaste 2x a day with an electric toothbrush (preferably an oscillating one) and floss. This is a great combination to help remove surface stains that accumulate over the day from all the surfaces, as well as keeping them heathy. This toothpaste is great because it helps to prevent stain sticking to the enamel. Seeing Claire(our hygienist) every 3-6 months keeps stains at bay to keep your teeth white and use the Smile White professional tooth whitening kit as a top up for one night every 3-6 months too. This keeps your results lasting as long as possible.

What whitening products do you recommend?

I use Smile White as my product of choice when I treat patients. I recommend Smile White when professionally bleaching teeth because it has been designed and created by dentists to give you effective results safely.
